Build Workplace Inclusivity

This WSQ Build Workplace Inclusivity programme equips participants with the skills and how-to in collaborating with stakeholders from different backgrounds, different generations, including diversity dimensions such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender orientation, age, physical and learning ability, education, socio-economic status and political belief, to understand the interests of diverse groups and build an inclusive work environment.
At the end of the course, participants will have a good understanding of how each generation functions, have a greater awareness when interacting with a diverse workforce. These will be useful skillset in today’s working landscape.
Participants who fulfil all requirements will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by the SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
- Identify diversity opportunities by comparing personal value systems and organisational belief frameworks
- Apply heightened self-awareness to monitor behaviors and mitigate the impact of unconscious bias in the workplace
- Execute inclusive communication strategies by adopting active listening and perspective-taking techniques
- Demonstrate organisational excellence by aligning professional conduct with fair and inclusive policy standards
Foundations of workplace diversity
- Key concepts, dimensions, and the evolution of workplace diversity
- Internal and external diversity factors (e.g., age, race, education, and family status)
- Influence of personal values, belief systems, and attitudes on professional interactions
- Real-world applications of diversity in the Singaporean context
The psychology of inclusion
- Understanding unconscious bias and its impact on decision-making
- Common heuristic traps: Affinity bias, Confirmation bias, and the Halo effect
- Strategies for heightening self-awareness and mitigating personal prejudice
- Strengthening team cohesion through the appreciation of cognitive diversity
Inclusive communication strategies
- Principles of effective communication: Active listening and perspective-taking
- Navigating cross-cultural and generational communication gaps
- Managing sensitive interactions using the “I” statement technique
- Fostering psychological safety through respectful and transparent dialogue
Operationalising organisational inclusion
- Aligning individual conduct with fair and inclusive organisational policies
- Advancing inclusivity through corporate communication materials and branding
- Identifying and eliminating exclusionary language in professional documentation
- Developing a “Living Culture” through consistent advocacy and behavioral modeling
This course adopts an experiential and practice-oriented learning approach to ensure participants not only understand the concepts of inclusivity but also gain confidence in applying them within diverse workplace environments. Learning methods include:
- Interactive mini-lectures – to provide clear frameworks on diversity dimensions and the psychology of bias
- Self-reflective assessments – to evaluate personal value systems and heighten awareness of unconscious prejudices
- Case study analysis – to examine real-world scenarios of cultural friction and organisational inclusion strategies
- Role-play simulations – to practice inclusive communication techniques and sensitive conflict resolution
- Collaborative group discussions – to encourage the exchange of perspectives and foster collective problem-solving
