The very best of Shanghai's ideals to marry technological innovation with environmental sustainability in aesthetically pleasing forms will be on show at its pavilion at 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. Themed "Better City, Better Life" and slated to run from May 1 to Oct 31, 2010, this event is expected to attract 70 million visitors from all over the world.
At the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion, visitors would gear up for an experience guaranteed to provoke their five senses. The design boasts interior spaces which are shaped as a series of free, flowing forms, no longer enclosed by walls of the static kind but a dense, cubic volume of infrastructural network, including LED lights and mist making system, which are capable of changing the appearance of the building from one moment to another as programmed through computer.
The conveyance of such spectacular design innovation can only be suitably communicated through unparalleled service delivery. To ensure that seamless guest experience, SQ Centre has been commissioned to share its expertise with the service ambassadors of the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion, which includes the hosts, cleaners, maintenance staff and security officers, equipping them to serve up an unrivalled experience for each visitor.
"A unique guest experience is to be delivered by design, not by chance", said Dr Buck P Tang, Divisional Director, International Business, SQ Centre.
Based on the setting and theme of Shanghai Corporate Pavilion, a set of "Guest Experience DNAs" were formulated, and "Guest Experience Cues" that would stimulate visitors' experience were identified. From people perspective, these "Cues" would include Service Ambassadors' behaviors and service language, which epitomize the signature Chinese traditional virtues or manner; avoiding novelty or showiness yet project a vivacious, warm, elegant and natural demeanor when interface with the visitors.
To ensure consistency in delivering a unique experience by Service Ambassadors, the "Cues" were translated into learners-able training programs. The concept of "emotive learning" is introduced to enable Service Ambassadors to embrace the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion's intended service experience. A team of trainers from SQ Centre Singapore and China led by Caroline Lim, Deputy Area General Manager would provide bilingual exposures to the service ambassadors. In line with the 2010 World Expo theme "Better City, Better Life", Shanghai Corporate Pavilion poised to showcase the harmonization of technological advancement and human touch.
This key partnership between SQ Centre, Ariva and Shanghai Corporate Pavilion is expected to showcase the exhibits to its best advantage.
About Shanghai Corporate Pavilion at 2010 World Expo
In 2010, we will have gone through a long period of rapid technological advancement and the extent of infrastructure in a building will have dramatically increased to the point that technologies are today's basic building blocks. The Shanghai Corporate Pavilion at the World Expo manifests this observation in its design, conveying visually the dream of a brighter future, through sophisticated technologies while addressing the pressing issue of energy and sustainability.
Spread over an area of about 4,000 square meters, the design of the pavilion is highly interactive as it encourages visitors to participate in the activities at the various exhibition areas.
A part of the architectural infrastructure is designated for the solar energy harvesting and rain water collection and the external facade will be made of recycled plastic.
The key highlights of technological detail and environmental protection at the Pavilion include:
1. Solar Energy System
The Shanghai Corporate Pavilion features a 1600m2 solar heat-collecting tube on the roof. These solar tubes can collect solar energy to produce hot water up to 95°C. Ultra-low temperature power generation technology, a novel way to generate electricity through solar power can be applied to everyday life.
2. Recycled Plastic materials
Shanghai produces nearly 30 million of waste CDs every year, and only 25% of them are reclaimed and recycled. If these CDs were reclaimed and washed, they could be used to produce polycarbonate granules and manufacture more polycarbonate plastic products. The external facade materials of the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion will use polycarbonate transparent plastic tubes to create its dreamlike appearance. After the Expo, these plastic tubes can be easily recycled to reduce social wastage.
3. Water/Mist System
For the Pavilion, rainwater will be collected and recycled. After suitable treatment such as sedimentation, filtration and storage, rainwater can be used for daily purposes at the pavilion and for the "mist" in particular. The mist can lower the temperature, purify the air and create a comfortable climate in pavilion. The spray can also be used to form various patterns under the ceiling of entrance hall and enhances the overall appearance of the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion.
